Devin Haney’s dad, Bill, posted on social media today, mocking Ryan Garcia’s choice of hair products. Bill questioned why Ryan (24-1, 20 KOs) was using shea butter cream for his hair in a video. Fans are starting to wonder whether Bill really wants this fight for his son, Devin.

Is Bill sabotaging the promotion of Dev’s fight with Ryan with bizarre social media posts? Devin should hire Regis Prograis’ strength coach, Evins Tobler, to take over for Bill in marketing the fight. Leave Bill at home and let Tobler do the talking.

Shea Butter Controversy?

It’s unclear why Bill would bother talking about Ryan’s use of shea butter to style his hair instead of helping his son, WBC light welterweight champion Devin (31-0, 15 KOs), promote his fight against Kingry on April 20th on DAZN.

Why Bill is focusing on what Ryan puts in his hair is difficult to know. Has Bill never heard of Shea butter for hair? Where has he been hiding?

“We knew we smelled something different at the last face-off. Ryan pulled up, and I knew it was going to be a problem. We won’t be surprised next time,” said Bill Haney on X, talking about Ryan’s hair product.

Misplaced Focus

Bill hasn’t shown much interest in discussing Devin’s fight with Ryan since the fight was signed. Yesterday, he posted about Gervonta Davis on social media.

It’s weird for Bill to focus on Ryan’s hair. Is this a strategic distraction tactic, a sign of misplaced focus, or simply a dad doing dad things? Whatever the reason, it’s an odd approach to promoting one of the year’s biggest boxing events.

Haney’s Fight Promotion Suffers

At this rate, Devin’s fight will bomb badly on PPV, and he’ll be in poor shape when he tries to negotiate his next fight. Ryan and his team can’t promote the fight without Bill’s help because Devin can’t hold up his end. They need Bill to do the talking for him, but he can’t do that if he’s talking about other stuff that has nothing to do with the fight.

With the Haney vs. Garcia fight coming up in two months, Bill’s decision to discuss his opponent’s hair and even post about Gervonta Davis seems counterproductive. Fans wonder if he’s already looking past Ryan toward Devin’s next potential match-up.
