Tyson Fury says he’s not impressed with what he’s seen of Oleksandr Usyk in his five fights since moving up to heavyweight from the cruiserweight division in 2019.

Fury’s Own Resume Ain’t So Hot

He underrates Usyk’s resume as a pro, not seeing anything there that worries him. Of course, that’s like the pot calling the kettle black, as Fury’s resume is empty except for his clash against Wladimir Klitschko, who was 40 years old and past it when they fought in 2015.

“He’s only had [five] fights at heavyweight, and I haven’t been that impressed. Is he good enough to beat the Gypsy King? I don’t think so, but good luck to him. If he is, I’ll shake his hand. I’ll take him out inside seven rounds,” said Fury to Charlie Parson’s site, talking about his May 18th rescheduled fight against Usyk.

Fury (34-0-1, 24 KOs) is dismissing IBF/WBA/WBO champion Usyk ahead of their undisputed championship fight on Mahy 18th in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Fury: Over the Hill?

It won’t help Fury by minimizing Usyk’s threat to him and his sinking career. Let’s face it: Fury lost his last fight against Francis Ngannou and was given a gift in Saudi Arabia.

Some would say that Fury is in denial about what happened to him against Ngannou last October, and failing to confront to brutal truth of what he’s about his fight against the superior talent Usyk, who is physically much younger and fighting on a higher level.

Ngannou beat the stuffing out of Fury, making him look like a fighter much older than his chronological age of 35. The Fury’s barnacled-covered ship is listing badly, taking on water on the boat deck and ready to sink.

Too Late Turn Back the Clock?

Tyson’s loyal fans believe that the old Gypsy King will turn up and look as fresh as he did when he defeated Wladimir.

They don’t want to believe that Fury is slipping and has gotten old. They think his last performance against Francis Ngannou was just a case of him not taking his training seriously for last October’s match.

It’s obviously tough for Fury to acknowledge that he’s gotten old and not the guy that he once was 3000+ days ago when he was still young, fleet of foot. It’s a terrible thing getting old.
