Tyson Fury believes he just needs to cut out some of the showboating to get the edge over Oleksandr Usyk in their upcoming rematch.
Following their official press conference for their upcoming heavyweight title rematch on December 21, Tyson Fury speaks to TNT Sports about why he’s not looking to overhaul his game plan to beat Oleksandr Usyk and says he just needs to make minor tweaks to get the job done.
“Here’s the thing, I’m a very, very, very educated heavyweight boxer,” Fury said. “I know it from inside out. So it if was easy to walk Usyk down with your hands up like that and walking forward then that’s Anthony Joshua’s style, that’s Daniel Dubois’ style. They’re big, strong men who walk someone down with their hands up and batter them into submission and knock ‘em out. They couldn’t do it.
“My style is slickness, jabbing, moving, slipping and sliding — why would I give that up to walk forward [behind a high guard]? It doesn’t make sense, I wouldn’t do it. So all I got to do to win this rematch is little, tiny adjustments — and I mean small adjustments — and that is not so much clowning, me hands behind my back, having a good time. A little bit more focus…just a serious version of what I already did.
“He said ‘oh, what’s the game plan,’ I said ‘no change, mate.’ It was a nip and tuck fight, you got the decision, fantastic. I’m going to do exactly the same, I’m gong to boxing behind a lovely long jab, going to double feint him, feint him, feint him, feint him, double feint him, body, uppercuts to the head, uppercuts to the body. But instead of [showboating] I’ll be focusing a bit more.
“Obviously I know he can hurt me and I’ll just focus a bit more and I should get the job done. Simple.”
