Ryan Garcia is letting his fans know that his two press conferences next week will be ones they need to look forward to for his April 20th clash against WBC light welterweight champion Devin Haney.

Garcia has a surprise new teammate who will be with him during the press conferences, causing a lot of speculation on social media about who the person could be.

“Trust me when I say you don’t want to miss these press conferences,” said Ryan Garcia on X, hyping the build-up to his fight against WBC light welterweight champion Devin Haney on April 20th.

Avoiding WWE-Style Drama

What’s important is they don’t resemble the WWE-esque meeting that Ryan recently had with Haney (31-0, 15 KOs), in which he shoved him, resulting in Bill Haney going berserk, trying to get at Ryan to defend Devin’s honor.

It was weird to watch because Devin was just standing like a wallflower, letting his dad, Bill, do all the hard work after Ryan shoved him. Devin’s acting ability was under-dramatized, while Bill’s was puerile and over-the-top, not matching his son’s wooden characterization in the theatrical production.

“Ryan Garcia and Derrick James, they’re a hell of a team. We don’t take them lightly. This is the one that really counts, and that’s the only one we can look at right now,” said Bill Haney to Thaboxingvoice.

Bill Haney on the Defensive

“There’s no restriction on Ryan and no restriction on Devin, other than getting on the scale and weighing 140 and fighting the next night. That’s it,” said Bill, when told that some people are making accusations that Devin Haney is using an IV to rehydrate, which is why he ballooned up 25 lbs to 165 lbs after weighing in at 140 for his last fight on December 9th against WBC light welterweight champion Regis Prograis.

“When you talk about restricting one of the fighters under the WBC’s rules, then you’re talking about a handicap.”

As long as Haney doesn’t rehydrate to 165 or 170, there shouldn’t be a problem with him being criticized by fans. But when you hear about Devin rehydrating 25 lbs, it’s a red flag to some people that something is fishy going on.

It’s hard to fathom a person rehydrating 25 lbs overnight by just drinking water, which is why some fans believe Devin is using IVs to game the system by fighting in a weight division well below his natural size.
