Ryan Garcia is 100% unapologetic after his victory over Devin Haney, and he says he doesn’t care what people think about him in terms of the steroid controversy that has surfaced due to his positive tests for PEDs.
The superstar Garcia (25-1, 20 KOs) has asked for his B sample to be checked, and he’s having his supplements tested to discover the cause of the positive tests. He says he was high when he beat Haney, and it was “so easy,” easier than his sparring sessions.
Ryan hasn’t said what he’ll do if he’s suspended. If it’s a six-month suspension, he’ll be out of action until possibly early 2025.
The Walk in the Park
“I got in there as high as f***, and I beat his a**. It was so easy. It was a walk in the park,” Ryan Garcia told the Fully Tilted YouTube channel about his victory over Devin Haney on April 20th.
“I had harder fights in sparring. It was not hard at all, and even Devin was, ‘I’ve never been outclassed that easily.’”
I can understand why it would be easy for Ryan because Haney (31-1, 15 KOs) looked weak and drained. He had no power in his fights against Vasily Lomachenko and Regis Prograis.
Haney needs to move up to welterweight already or junior middleweight because it’s insane that he’s taking off that much weight while holding a world title at 140.
It’s likely that Haney’s habit of draining down from the 160s finally caught up to him, leaving him a weakened shell.
Haney needs to consider moving up to welterweight because it’s got to be killing him to drain down 20+ lbs of water weight the week of the fight, and then quickly rehydrate overnight.
Obviously, there are special tricks that fighters use to rapidly add water after hitting the scales, but it’s not a good thing physically to shift 20+ lbs back into your system within 24 hours.
Dispelling the Steroid Accusations
“Dude, steroids didn’t help that, brother. I’ve fought someone on steroids and knocked them the f*** out. It doesn’t do anything,” Ryan said.
“These dudes are con artists. They had it said up in case they lost. I don’t even know how to get steroids. We’re testing all my supplements to see if they were tainted. We asked for the B sample. They can try and label me as a cheater. I know in my heart I’m not a cheater,” said Ryan Garcia.
The problem that Ryan has is that he’ll still be suspended if he can’t prove that one of his supplements contains the banned substance.
