Formidable super lightweight contender Batyrzhan Jukembayev (22-1) will come to blows with the tough ‘El Terrible’ Ukrainian Ivan Redkach (24-6-1) in Plant City, Florida as a part of Pro Box Promotions Wednesday Night Fights.
Jukembayev is a highly underrated contender who could make a huge splash in the current landscape of super lightweight, with his only loss coming by way of the current IBF World Super Lightweight champion Subriel Matias (20-1). The 33 year old Kazakh southpaw carries 16 stoppages in his 22 wins and intense firepower that could only be halted by the sheer blunt power of the Puerto Rican champion.
In the opposite corner, Ivan Redkach, a Ukrainian gatekeeper based in California. A tough operator in his own right, he has a significant reach advantage over the dominant Kazakhstan-native and the skill to make this bout an entertaining war. The majority of his losses come by way of the ‘top dogs’ of the sport; Regis Prograis (29-2), Danny Garcia (37-3) and Tevin Farmer (33-5-1) to name a few.
If Jukembayev can retrieve the scalp of Redkach, it could open him up to competitions against the big names of the division in the future; potentially someone like Regis Prograis, who will be looking for a strong recovery fight, coming off his loss to Devin Haney (31-1).
As ever, there are also plenty of prospects looking to make an impression within the Pro Box ropes.
For instance, Jonhatan Cardoso (16-1), from Sao Paulo, Brazil, will be looking to impress against 17-5 gatekeeper Adam ‘Blue Nose’ Lopez. The 25 year old who goes under the alias of ‘Maximus’ has only stumbled once before in his short, growing career; having failed to grasp the vacant WBO Latino Lightweight title against 17-5-1 Panamanian Juan Huertas.
Meanwhile, his opponent, from Glendale, California, has held accolades such as the North American Boxing Federation Featherweight and WBC Latino Lightweight titles. Aside from this, Lopez has had far more experience within the ring, having lost at the hands of world class operators Oscar Valdez (32-2) on two occasions, as well as Abraham Nova (23-20) and Isaac Dogboe (24-4) to mention but a few.
This match-up should test Cardoso, as well as provide real lightweight fireworks for those in Plant City.
Elsewhere, the card is littered with equal match-ups at a lower-level, with the super featherweight division gracing a slot with 7-0 Mykell Gamble facing 6-1 ‘Edo’ John Edwardson. Also featured on the small card is 8-1 lightweight ‘LOLO’, Charles Harris Jr. who is set to clash with 7-1 Oceanside, California-based fighter Kyle Erwin.
And so, with this collection of entertaining, barn-burning and promising fights, Wednesday night promises to be all-action in Plant City.
