The most avoidable welterweight in the world IBF World Welterweight champion, Philadelphia’s Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis, while waiting for WBA, WBC, and WBO Welterweight champion Terence ‘Bud’ Crawford, 40-0 with 31 stoppages to decide whom he will be fighting next.
Spence has now said he won’t fight Crawford again but move up to super welterweight in a world title fight.
Boot’s father and teacher (one of the best in the business), Bozy Ennis, said his son will defend against No. 1 contender Cody ‘The Crippler’ Crowley, 22-0 with 9 stoppages, the fight takes place in Philadelphia at the Wells Fargo Center, July 13th. Promoter Eddie Hearn (Matchroom Boxing) is his promoter and promoting the event.
Next could be No. 2 southpaw Giovani Santillan, 32-0 with six stoppages. Managed by David McWater whom managed ‘The New’ Ray Robinson whom Ennis trained. Ranked No. 1 by WBO Santillan may be looking for an easier opponent. He was offered Ennis but waiting for WBO shot.
Philadelphia’s Ennis, 31-0 with 28 stoppages, is out to prove he will defend against the top contender, which, when he was the top contender, he got bypassed for the most part of his career.
In his last bout, Ennis, in July 2023, he stopped Roiman Villa, 26-1, of Rosario, Venezuela, in ten rounds in a defense of his IBF interim title. He was ahead on points after nine rounds 88-83 and 89-82 twice. Villa hasn’t fought since.
Previously in January Ennis defeated Karen Chukhadzhian, 27-1, of Kiev, Ukraine, winning all twelve rounds.
In 2022 in his only fight Ennis knocked out Custis Clayton, 19-0-1, in 2 rounds, at the Dignity Sports Health Park, in Carson, California.
Crowley is also ranked No. 1 by the WBC and No. 11 by the WBO. Born in Ontario, Canada, he fights out of Las Vegas, Nevada.
Fighting once a year for the past three years, Crowley in 2021 defeated Kudratilo Abdukakhorov, 18-0, coming off the canvas in the second round, in Carson, California.
Having fought on Showtime for the most part of his recent career, Ennis, watch them promote their last show in December and end their promotion of boxing.
Ennis had been negotiating for a unification bout with WBA World Welterweight champion Eimantas Stanionis, 15-0 with 9 stoppages, of Lithuania, which was turned down by his management.
“Now that Boots is champion you would think he has something they (contenders) would want,” said Ennis.
I nominated both Bozy and his son Derek “Pooh” Ennis, 24-5-1 with 13 stoppages, IBF USBA Super Welterweight champion and both were inducted into the PAB HOF. I have attempted to nominate another son, Farah Ennis, 22-2, with 12 stoppages, and held the NABF Super Middleweight title.
