Promoter Eddie Hearn is excited about 4,000 pre-sale tickets selling out for the homecoming defense of IBF welterweight champion Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis for his title defense against Cody Crowley on July 13th at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.
As Hearn points out, the general sale for the tickets begins today at midway, and it looks promising that this will be a sellout for Boots’ fight against the unbeaten Crowley (22-0, 9 KOs).
The interesting part about this is that Boots isn’t even fighting a well-known fighter, yet the tickets are moving well.
Hearn’s Vision for Ennis
Hearn recently signed the unbeaten Boots Ennis (31-0, 28 KOs) to his Matchroom Boxing stable, and he’s planning on having him unify the 147-lb division to become the undisputed champion before moving up to 154 to go after Terence Crawford if he’s still around.
Ideally, it won’t take long for Boots Ennis to capture the three titles he needs at 147 for him to become the undisputed champion. However, if it appears that Ennis is being blocked from fighting the other champions, he’ll need to give up and move to 154 because there would be no point in staying at 147 for years and waiting for a chance to fight for the other belts.
Staying Busy, Staying Relevant
Ennis hadn’t fought since last July when he defeated Roman Villa. It’s disappointing that he’s lost a year of his career by not fighting, but Hearn plans on keeping Ennis busy as possible to turn him into a star.
It’s important that Ennis not only stay busy, but fight the right opposition that will turn him into a star. When Hearn promoted Demetrius Andrade, he matched him with a couple of British guys and a Polish fighter, and his popularity didn’t increase, even though he looked good winning the fights.
Hearn needs to be aware of the importance of matching Boots Ennis against U.S based fighters instead of repeatedly matching him against UK based fighters like he did with Andrade.
Wow! We completely SOLD OUT the pre sale for @JaronEnnis homecoming. Over 4,000 gone already and general sale doesn’t begin til midday tomorrow! Huge night coming to Philadelphia on July 13! See you tomorrow at the press conference 🔥 #EnnisCrowley @daznboxing pic.twitter.com/6M6CqgmC1h
