Adrien Broner unleashed a storm of expletive-filled insults and homophobic slurs towards his opponent Blair ‘The Flair’ Cobbs during today’s final press conference for a third fight this Friday night on June 7th in Hollywood, Florida.
A Troubled Fighter’s Downward Spiral
Broner (35-4-1, 24 KOs), looking thin and highly agitated today, trashed Cobbs (16-1-1, 10 KOs), talking about guns, shooting, and sounding like he was not a happy camper. It was sad to see how Broner reduced to trashing a guy who wouldn’t have been good enough to share the ring with him during his prime.
“I’m coming to die if I have to. I don’t know what [Cobbs] is coming to do,” said Broner during today’s final press conference. “I’m coming to take it that far. I’m coming to die in that ring. Don’t play no games. All I got to do is point, and they going to blow
“So don’t come up here playing. Don’t make no false move. I’m not playing. I’ll smack you. They will shoot you in your s***.
The rest of Broner’s comments were more along the same lines. At one point, Broner tore off his shirt, saying he was ready to weigh in right there. Interestingly, Broner still had a paunch on him, and hadn’t lost all thie weight that he’s packed on since his last fight.
A Change for the Worse
Some believe that AB is angry and losing so much weight during the build-up and not being able to eat because he has to get in shape for one of his rare fights.
Broner’s once-promising career has evaporated since 2013, with legal issues, weight gain, and deteriorating skills.
You could tell from Broner’s drained appearance that he’d gone through hell to lose the weight he’d packed on since his last fight a year ago, in June 2023, against little-known Bill Hutchinson.
If Broner loses this fight, it’s hard to know where he goes from here. He still dreams of getting fights against the names, but that doesn’t seem realistic.
He hasn’t beaten a notable fighter since his controversial victory over Paulie Malingaggi in 2013, and that was 11 years ago in a fight that many felt he deserved to lose.
During former four-division world champion Broner’s prime, when he was still a relevant fighter, he was witty and entertaining during his press conferences, but he’s become fouth-mouthed and has changed for the worse.
