Jesse Rodriguez faces Juan Francisco Estrada on June 29 with a WBC super flyweight world title on the line.
With Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez gearing up for his upcoming June 29 fight against Juan Francisco Estrada he took some time to answer some questions from Fight Hype about what this opportunity means for him and taking this fight a little personal. Check out some of what he had to say down below.
Rodriguez on looking to cement his credibility with a win over Estrada
“People are still counting me out for some reason. They don’t believe I am who I am, especially Estrada, he’s been discrediting my wins since like 2022 so this fight means a lot to prove him wrong, prove the boxing world wrong, and to fight for another title — all that combined, I’m just coming with everything.”
On if this fight is personal for him
“Yeah, just because of the things he said. I want to prove him wrong, prove his team wrong.”
On being much younger than Estrada and if that will make any difference in the fight
“Yeah. I’m a lot more fresher. I’m only 24 years old. Like you said, he’s like maybe 10 years older than me so he’s been through a lot of wars, probably has taken a toll on him but I’m expecting the best Estrada. That’s what I’m preparing for.”
On his sparring session with Roman Gonzalez
“This was actually the first time sparring him, but it did boost my confidence a bit. But at the end of the day it’s just sparring but it was good work, though. I believe he does some things similar to Estrada so whenever I was in there I was working on things that I’m going to do in the fight.”
