Due to a delay in obtaining his visa, Enrique Vivas was forced to withdraw from his scheduled bout, and now undefeated featherweight contender Bruce “Shu Shu” Carrington is set to face late-sub Brayan De Gracia (29-3-1, 25 KOs) on Saturday night June 8th at the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden, live on ESPN.
The Carrington-De Gracia clash is the chief support bout of the Top Rank promoted card that features Xander Zayas vs Patrick Teixeira. On Saturday night, De Gracia will attempt to pull off the upset, while Carrington plans on showcasing his skills and making a distinctive statement.
A native of Brownsville, Brooklyn, New York, Bruce “Shu Shu” Carrington posted five victories within the calendar year, and as a result, he was named Ring Magazine 2023 Prospect of The Year. Back in February, Carrington made his first ring appearance of 2024 when he squared off against Bernard Torres.
In the opening round Carrington dictated the pace, but Torres had a moment when he landed a solid combination. Carrington found the range in the second round as he was able to consistently connect with the right hand.
Carrington felt very comfortable in the fourth round as he proceeded to walk his opponent down. With 8 seconds remaining in the fourth, Carrington knocked Torres out when he landed a devastating right-hand shot.
Now the WBO #4, WBC #7 ranked featherweight, Bruce “Shu Shu” Carrington (11-0, 7 KOs), is ready to take the next step in his boxing journey. Carrington sees world title opportunities in his future, but first, he must take care of business on Saturday night.
Bruce “Shu Shu” Carrington is a 27-year-old contender who has all the tools. Shu Shu plans on being the biggest name in boxing, and during a recent interview on ‘The Climb,’ he broke down his two names and their personas.
“What you’re getting right here is Bruce, you know what I mean? You get the smiles and the happy-go-lucky and the clowning around. ‘Shu Shu’ is what you see in the ring. ‘Shu Shu’ Carrington, he is a beast. He’s that Brownsville bully.”
On Saturday night Shu Shu will be tested from a physical standpoint inside of the ring, but he’s currently being tested mentally as he must change his focus from Enrique Vivas to his new opponent.
‘Shu Shu’s’ new opponent for Saturday night’s 10-round co-feature is the Panamanian power puncher Brayan “La Roca” De Gracia. The 30-year-old De Gracia is an aggressive boxer who’s prone to consistently press forward and fight off the front foot. Due to the styles of both boxers, this co-feature should be a fan-friendly contest.
The Brownsville section of Brooklyn, New York, has produced seven world champions, and Bruce “Shu Shu” Carrington’s goal is to become number eight. On Saturday night, June 8th, live on ESPN, Shu Shu plans on entertaining his home crowd, posting an impressive victory, and taking another step towards securing a world title opportunity.
