Ryan Garcia’s legal team released a prepared statement Sunday in response to the boxer’s Saturday arrest on suspicion of felony vandalism at a Beverly Hills hotel.
“We are aware of the recent arrest. This comes at an extraordinarily challenging time for Ryan, as he has been grappling with devastating news regarding his mother’s health,” attorney Darin Chavez wrote.
“First and foremost, we urge everyone to respect Ryan’s privacy during this difficult period. Ryan has been open about his struggles with mental health over the years and at this time he is dealing with an immense emotional burden. The support and understanding from fans and the public are crucial as he navigates these personal challenges.”
Beyond the arrest, the 25-year-old Garcia (25-1, 20 KOs) confronts a possible suspension, fine and deletion of his April 20 majority decision victory over WBC lightweight champion Devin Haney at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
Garcia since tested positive twice for the banned performance-enhancing substance Ostarine, the “B” samples confirming the positives.
The New York State Athletic Commission will determine Garcia’s fate on that matter.
He then posted on social media that his mother is battling breast cancer.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney will weigh Garcia’s vandalism case.
“We are working diligently to provide Ryan with the resources he needs,” attorney Chavez said. “Our team is committed to ensuring that he receives the appropriate help and care to address both his immediate and long-term well-being.
“We ask for continued support and compassion as Ryan focuses on his family and his health at this time.”
