Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis’ coach, Kenny Ellis, revealed that he’s beginning to prepare for IBF lightweight champion Vasily Lomachenko for the next opponent for his fighter.
Ellis says Lomachenko (18-3, 12 KOs) can come with his fighting angles, let Tim Bradley work his corner, and then help him after he gets knocked out by Tank (30-0, 28 KOs).
Ducking Lomachenko Since Day One
This reeks of a name-dropping stunt on coach Ellis’ part, bringing up the talented former three-division world champion Lomachenko for clout purposes, only to have Tank Davis go in a safer direction towards a rematch with Ryan Garcia or Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz.
It only took Gervonta Davis six years to finally show interest in fighting the two-time Olympic gold medalist Lomachenko, who is now 36 and no longer in his prime.
The boxing public perceives Tank and his management team as ducking Lomachenko since 2017, wanting nothing to do with him and knowing what would happen if they fought the talented fighter.
Lomachenko Still a Threat
The talented technical master Lomachenko still poses a major threat to outboxing Tank Davis, sending him to his first career defeat.
Tank got outboxed for seven rounds by a limited Frank Martin last Saturday night, needing a knockout to bail him out of a difficult situation.
It’s difficult to know if this is just a ploy by Team Tank Davis to create fake hype for his career by naming Lomachenko the next opponent.
“Because of the strong rumors in the air, phase #1, I’m up studying Lomachenko,” said coach Kenny Ellis on Instagram. “If and when this fight happens, please let him come with his angles, and hopefully, he will let Timothy Bradley work his corners so he can pick up Loma’s shoes when Tank knocks him out of his socks.”
Kenny seems bothered by boxing commentator Tim Bradley’s valid criticism of Gervonta Davis, who had never fought an A-level fighter during his 11-year professional career. That criticism is valid, as the best opponents that Tank Davis has fought were these beatable fighters:

Tim Bradley’s Valid Criticism
“Loma, Shakur Stevenson, anybody that holds a belt at 135 pounds. That’s who we want to see Tank in the ring with, and he has yet to fight an A-level guy, someone like him, someone that will give him a threat or be a threat. I always wanted to see him fight against Loma,” said Tim Bradley on Probox TV on who he wants to see Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis fighting.
