Gervonta Davis’ co-trainer Kenny Ellis posted on social media, complaining about the numerous highlight videos of Vasily Lomachenko being uploaded on YouTube this week ahead of their potential unification lightweight title fight between the two champions in November.
Overlooking the Obvious
Kenny suspects the many uploaders are trying to intimidate Tank Davis (30-0, 28 KOs). He sees it as a calculated attempt to scare Tank and his team ahead of the fight with Lomachenko.
He predicts that the IBF 135-lb champion Lomachenko (18-3, 12 KOs) “won’t see the twelfth round.”
Interestingly, Kenny overlooks the more reasonable explanation for uploaders posting videos to make easy cash, taking advantage of the huge interest in the Tank vs. Lomachenko fight in the next four months.
It’s believed by fans Tank Davis’ team intentionally waited until Lomachenko was 36 to fight him, thinking that they would have a better chance finally of beating him now that he’s not the young killer he was seven years ago when he first began calling out the Baltimore native in 2017.
“Phase 3 Studying Lomachenko: Why all of a sudden are these Lomachenko highlight videos popping up? Are they supposed to be intimidating or something? He won’t see the 12th with Gervonta Davis,” said co-trainer Kenny Ellis on social media about the numerous Vasily Lomachenko highlight videos that have been uploaded on YouTube by ambitious posters, losing to take advantage of the interest have in the Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis fight in November.
Kenny Ellis should be trying to work on Tank Davis’s skills rather than wasting time spying on all the new uploads of Lomachenko on YouTube and getting angry about them. Tank is giving away too many rounds in his fights and counting on his power to bail him out every time.
He can’t do that against Lomachenko because he will avoid Tank’s bail-out left uppercut, his bread & butter punch that gets him out of trouble every time, albeit against lesser opposition.
If Tank and his team fear Lomachenko’s highlight videos, they shouldn’t take the fight and continue avoiding Loma like they’ve been doing along with Shakur Stevenson.
Tank’s Team’s Strategy
After watching how poor Tank Davis looked against Frank Martin, a B-level fighter, Lomachenko has an excellent chance of winning this fight by outboxing him. Beyond his power, Tank has zero boxing skills and is just there for the taking by Lomachenko.
I can understand why Mayweather Promotions protected Tank Davis all these years after watching how inept he looked against Frank Martin. They knew what they had in Tank, a guy with only power, and they kept him away from the real threats at 130, 135, and 140 to protect their investment.
