Lightweight contender William Zepeda has a stay-busy fight against Giovanni Cabrera (22-1, 7 KOs) this Saturday night on July 6th. Zepeda, 30-0, 26 KOs) hopes that with a victory over Cabrera, he can get a title shot next against one of the champions.
With the way Zepeda, 28, is fighting now, it doesn’t matter which of the champs he faces. He’s going to be a problem for them.
Saturday’s Zepeda vs. Cabrera fight is scheduled for twelve rounds at the Toyota Arena in Ontario, California. The event will be shown live on DAZN starting at 8:00 p.m. ET.
Zepeda is a classic pressure fighter who wears his opponents down with pressure to get knockouts. He’s good at wearing down fighters that move a lot, and it’ll be interesting to see how he does against WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson when it comes time for him to challenge for a world title.
Cabrera is coming off a ten-round unanimous decision win over Ricardo Quiroz last March. In his previous fight, Cabrera, 29, lost to Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz by a narrow 12 round unanimous split decision last year in July.
For some reason, Golden Boy Promotions isn’t doing much promoting for this card. Zepeda is an excellent fighter, and you would think Golden Boy would be letting fans know about this fight.
Zepeda has recent wins over Maxi Hughes, Mercito Gesta, Joseph ‘JoJo’ Diaz, Jaime Arboleda and Rene Alvarado.
In the co-feature bout, flyweight Ricardo Sandoval (24-2, 17 KOs) fights Angel Acosta (24-4, 22 KOs) in a ten-round contest. The undercard is filled with fighters that even hardcore fans wouldn’t know.
