Keyshawn Davis is talking crazy, saying he’s going “knock out” Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis when he gets his hands on him. Davis (10-0, 7 KOs) says he wants a title shot against Tank next for his WBA lightweight belt and that the “little” bleep can’t “touch me.”
Someone put some ideas into Keyshawn’s head, making him think he can beat Tank. Keyshawn’s recent win over Jose Pedraza last February has given him confidence that was missing before he fought the 35-year-old former two-weight world champion.
#3 IBF, #3 WBC, and #3 WBO Keyshawn must win his ten-round undercard fight against Miguel Madueno (31-2, 28 KOs) this Saturday, July 6th, at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
The Madueno Test
If Top Rank can work their magic and sprinkle pixie dust over the head of Keyshawn to give him the talent he’s not shown, he might have a shot at beating Tank Davis. For now, Keyshawn is still a mortal and could fall apart on Saturday under the firepower of Madueno’s heavy shots.
There’s a real chance that Madueno will finish what Nahir Albright started by hurting and knocking out Keyshawn on Saturday. Top Rank is giving Davis a test by putting him in with this slugger, hoping he can pass, but they’re not sure.
Bob Arum’s company is already well-stocked at lightweight with Abdullah Mason, Vasily Lomachenko, and Raymond Muratalla, so it’s not a significant loss if Keyshawn doesn’t pan out. Shakur Stevenson might stay with Top Rank, and he can sit on his WBC lightweight title for ages.
“I would prefer Tank Davis, the top guy. I would go for the top guy. If I could choose, I would choose Tank Davis,” said Keyshawn Davis to Fight Hub TV on who he would like to fight if he could choose.
“I would knock his short a** out,” said Keyshawn about Tank. “Hats off to Tank. He’s a great fighter. Everybody knows he has the power, the skills, and the ability and patience, but I know what I am.”
It doesn’t look like Keyshawn will ever get a chance to fight Tank Davis because he’s on the other side of the pond, and besides that, he’s outgrowing the 135-lb division fast.
Proving Grounds
– Andy Cruz
– Raymond Muratalla
– Abdullah Mason
– Edwin De Los Santos
These four would be the ideal way for Top Rank to give Keyshawn a test and, at the same time, let him season more. If he hopes to compete with Tank Davis one of these days, he’ll improve his game by fighting these four.
“That little short [guy] can’t touch me, and I’m coming with that same stuff that he’s coming with, and he knows that. His coach Kenny [Ellis] knows. He has a lot to say. He said go fight the guy from Cuba [Andy Cruz]. No, I want to fight Tank. Stop mentioning other people when I’m mentioning your fighter.”
Overcoming the Ghost of Andy Cruz
At this point in the interview, Keyshawn got worked up when mentioning Andy Cruz’s name. He’s the guy who beat Keyshawn four times in the amateurs, and he sounds like he’s still haunted by the memories of what happened.
“What are you talking about? Don’t play with me. You know I’m coming. Tank, if you want to fight, send me a contract. You, Tank, you know,” said Keyshawn.
