Lightweight contender Abdullah Mason faces Augustin Quintana (19-2-1, 12 KOs) on August 17th at the Centre Videotron in Quebec City. The event will be shown live on ESPN and ESPN+ at 10:00 p.m. ET/7:00 p.m. PT.

It had already been known that Mason would fight on the August 17th card, but now his opponent has been revealed. It’s arguably a lateral move for Mason from his last foe, Luis Lebron, and not the big name that fans hoped for.

Mason vs. Quintana are fighting on the undercard of the super middleweight match-up between Christian Mbilli and Sergiy Derevyanchenko. It’s unclear how far down on the undercard Mason’s fight with Quintana is, but he deserves to be in the co-feature because he’s fighting on a higher level than any of their other lightweight prospects.

Abdullah Mason’s Last Four Opponents:

– Luis Lebron: TKO 3
– Ronal Ron: TKO 4
– Benjamin Gurment: TKO 2
– Jose Cardenas: TKO 2

The 20-year-old Mason (14-0, 12 KOs) is making a fast turnaround after stealing the show from Shakur Stevenson last Saturday night with his third-round technical knockout of Luis Lebron at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

Not much is known about the 27-year-old Augustin Quintana because he’s fighting under fans’ radar during his seven-year professional career in Argentina.

Mason, a native of Bedford, Ohio, appeared to get the most applause from any fighter on the card with his exciting performance in systematically destroying Lebron. Lebron had never been knocked out before, but he had no chance.

The fight arguably should have been waved off in round two after Mason knocked Lebron down twice and had him looking at his corner after the second knockdown, seemingly with a sign of needing help.

Mason looks like he’s ready for better opposition than Quintana. Top Rank would do Mason a real solid by throwing Keyshawn Davis to him so he can work him over in a match and show whether the 2020 Olympian is worth keeping.

Keyshawn, 25, is a lot older than Mason but is not progressing towards superstardom in the way he is. Letting Abdullah Mason feast on Keyshawn would be a good way of using him as a stepping stone towards a world title shot, which he wants by next year.

Mason looks good enough to beat WBC champion Shakur and WBO champion Denys Berinchyk. The only one who could give him problems is Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis.
