Ennis (31-0, 28 KOs) is ready to deal with the pressure of fighting at home in Philadelphia, and he insists that he won’t fail in his homecoming the way recent Eddie Hearn fighters, Subriel Matias and Regis Prograis did shortly after he signed them to his Matchroom Boxing stable and they were quickly beaten.
“You’re going to see a beautiful show on Saturday night,” said trainer Derek ‘Bozy’ Ennis during today’s final press conference for IBF welterweight champion Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis’s title defense against David Avanesyan on Saturday6 night in Philadelphia.
“With this atmosphere, with this platform, a special performance will take you to a whole new level in the sport,” said promoter Eddie Hearn to Boots Ennis. “Do we need to see a special performance from Boots? You sound absolutely 100% convinced that’s what we’re going to get.”
“Well, every time we come out, it’s special, but nobody ever took him [Boots Ennis] to another level yet,” said Bozy Ennis. “He has more stuff in his arsenal than people think. He just went to a certain level when he fought [Roiman] Villa, but if this guy comes out with some real good stuff, you’re going to see him go to another level.”
“Boots, pops says, ‘Inside four rounds.’ There’s a lot of pressure on you on Saturday night. A lot of promotion, a lot of hype. Are you ready to show everybody how great you are?” said Hearn.
“I’m ready. I can’t wait,” said Boots Ennis. “It’s a blessing to be able to fight here. It’s a blessing to put on a show and look good, beat him up, break him down and get the stoppage and have my fun and put on a beautiful show.”
“Do you expect to thrive on Saturday night? Another performance from Jaron Ennis,” said Hearn.
“Most definitely,” said Ennis. “I feel like I’m going to thrive here and put on a beautiful show.”
