On the Jaron “Boots” Ennis-David Avanesyan undercard, the talented light-heavyweight prospect Khalil Coe stopped Kwame Ritter (11-2, 9 KOs) in the second round and won the USWBC light-heavyweight title on Saturday night at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.
In a small sample size of action, Khalil Coe displayed speed, power, and solid punch placement. The sport of boxing is a sport based on levels, and Khalil Coe illustrated how Ritter was not on his level.
Coe controlled the opening round with his jab, but Ritter was able to sneak in a solid right hand shot. In the second round, Khalil Coe continued to dictate the pace of the fight by being active and accurate with the jab.
With 2:16 remaining in the second round, Coe landed a big right hand and followed it up with a couple of lefts to the body. Coe then proceeded to floor Ritter when he connected with a left hand shot upstairs.
Ritter was able to get up, but it was obvious in regards to Ritter being a man on borrowed time. Coe pressed forward and hit Ritter with rights, lefts, and uppercuts. As Coe continued to knock Ritter around the ring, the referee finally stepped in to put a halt to the contest.
The 27-year-old Jersey City, New Jersey native Khalil Coe (9-0-1, 7 KOs) was participating in his first ten round fight, but he only needed two to get the job done.
The KO win over Ritter pushes Coe’s current streak to five consecutive knockout victories.
During his post-fight interview, Khalil Coe was looking towards the future, and he has his eyes set on one particular undefeated contender in the light-heavyweight division.
“Joshua Buatsi, whenever you get finished with that uh Willy Hutchinson smoke, you need to come holla at me,” said Khalil Coe during his post-fight interview.
