Devin Haney says he’s working on a “sweet” deal for his next fight. He does not give any hints about who it could be, but some believe it could be a clash against WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios.

Haney’s Chasing “Billion” Fortune

Saying he’s chasing a “billion” fortune, the former two-division world champion Haney has a big fight in the works. It’s unclear whether His Excellency Turki Alalshikh has offered Haney to fight on one of his cards, but that would be the logical move if a lot of money is involved.

It would be a dream come true for Haney if he could get a huge money fight while he waits for his rematch with Ryan Garcia next year. Initially, Haney had said he would sit out for a year, which hinted at his not wanting to risk getting beaten before the rematch.

There are a handful of fights that Haney can make a lot of money fighting, but they’re risky ones for him. If Devin can’t take a punch without hitting the canvas, he’s got to make sure that he sure he chooses wisely to ensure that he wins:

Money fights for Haney:

– Gervonta Davis
– Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz
– Jaron Ennis
– Teofimo Lopez
– Shakur Stevenson

If His Excellency is involved, any fight would be well-paying and fit into Haney’s ” sweet ” category. The question is, would Turki Alalshikh be interested in putting Haney in one of his mega-events if he’s not facing someone who is a threat to beating him? I doubt it.

Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) gave up his WBC 140-lb title after choosing not to face his mandatory Sandor Martin. That wasn’t surprising because the money wouldn’t have been good for Haney, and the risk would have been high going up against the crafty, highly technical Martin.

The world watched Haney get soundly beaten by Ryan Garcia in a twelve-round majority decision defeat on April 20th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. However, the New York State Athletic Commission overturned the 25-year-old Haney’s loss, turning it into a no-contest.
