Dmitry Bivol and Artur Beterbiev are in training for their rescheduled light heavyweight undisputed championship fight on October 12th at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Beterbiev’s Rapid Recovery

IBF/WBC/WBO 175-lb champion Beterbiev (20-0, 20 KOs) is coming off a ruptured meniscus injury, but he’s recovered quickly. He was recently spotted biking in the Siberian mountains in Russia, peddling out in the wild up steep hills. Hopefully, he doesn’t have a setback with his knee problem.

The boxing public is very interested in watching the Bivol vs. Beterbiev fight because it’s one that people have wanted to see for the last five years.

Beterbiev is unhappy that Bivol didn’t want to face him all those years because he wanted to fight him, but it hasn’t happened until now. Without His Excellency Turki Alalshikh’s assistance, it’s possible that Bivol and Beterbiev would have never fought.

The younger fighter, 33-year-old Bivol (23-0, 12 KOs) is the favorite going in based on his youth, speed and combination punching, but Beterbiev has always beaten faster fighters.

He is quick at counter-punching faster fighters and hurting them. Bivol has looked chinny lately, and he might not be able to handle Beterbiev’s power.

In Bivol’s recent fights, he’s beaten little-known Malik Zinad last June by a first-round knockout. In his fight before that, Bivol pounded out a twelve-round unanimous decision against Lyndon Arthur last December in Riyadh.

That was a fight in which Bivol was staggered in the eighth and forced to play it safe on the outside for the remainder of the contest.

Assuming no rematch, the Bivol-Beterbiev winner will face WBC interim champion David Benavidez, who is waiting on the outcome. That will be up to Turki Alalshikh to decide who he wants to fight the winner.

There’s also potentially David Morrell, who will fight for the vacant WBC light heavyweight title on August 3rd. There’s also Andre Ward. He’s hinting about a comeback.
