Robson Conceicao took O’Shaquie Foster’s super featherweight title via split decision
Weeks after their first meeting produced one of the summer’s most controversial outcomes, the WBC has ordered super featherweight champion Robson Conceicao to rematch the recently deposed O’Shaquie Foster.
Conceicao (19-2-1, 9 KO) never managed to find a home for his punches against Foster (22-4, 12 KO), who held the Brazilian to a truly paltry connect percentage but didn’t offer too much offense of his own. Most still had Foster comfortably ahead after the final bell and reacted with appropriate fury at the ensuing split decision, including much wailing and gnashing of teeth from Tim Bradley.
There’s no mandatory challenger waiting in the wings and it would be wildly inappropriate for the WBC to just change the result outright, so this seems like the correct outcome, even if the ensuing fight will probably make us question whether the effort was worth it. We’ll let you know when and if they put the rematch together.
