Israil Madrimov is putting in the time in and out of the gym to make sure he keeps his junior middleweight world title this weekend.
Fight week rolls on for this weekend’s DAZN PPV main event where Terence Crawford challenges Israil Madrimov for a world title in the junior middleweight division. Looking ahead to the fight DAZN has released its second installment of ‘40 Days’, taking a behind the scenes look at both fighters in training camp as they prepare for the bout.
In this second episode we get a glance at both fighters rise to this level, with Crawford recalling his 2013 breakthrough opportunity when he got a call to take on Breidis Prescott on short notice. That fight would be Crawford’s first on the big stage, airing on HBO at the time, but certainly not his last.
On the other side of things we hear about Madrimov and how Joel Diaz’s camp was able to successfully transform Madrimov from an excellent amateur to a excellent professional fighter. Madrimov is credited with his footwork, defense, and power that comes from all angles, which many believe pose a serious threat to Crawford here. Even still, Madrimov makes sure to take the time to study his opponent.
“When we are watching him we are making insight, or tactic,” Madrimov would say while watching a Crawford fight on video. “In the ring he’s moving, he’s watching all punch, you know, smart, smart guy.”
