Both Jarrett Hurd and Jeison Rosario are coming off of stoppage wins over weak opposition
Lance Pugmire brings word that free-falling former champions Jarrett Hurd and Jeison Rosario will meet atop an August 21st ProBox show in Plant City, Florida.
Hurd (25-3, 17 KO), once the most feared super welterweight in the game after gritty wins over Tony Harrison, Austin Trout, and Erislandy Lara, suffered one of the most sudden and dramatic collapses in recent memory. He’s now 2-3 in his last five, including a comprehensive whooping from Julian Williams that cost him his two titles and a mauling at the hands of Jose Armando Resendiz in March 2023.
Rosario (24-4-1, 18 KO) is in a similar boat, coming out of nowhere to thrash Williams before getting smashed out of contention by Jermell Charlo and Erickson Lubin. Though he’s won four of his last five, the wins came over limited opposition in his native Dominican Republic and the loss was a beating at the hands of Brian Mendoza.
But hey, if they’re not going to retire, fighting someone in similarly dire straits is better than getting fed to someone elite.
The rest of the lineup sees fellow middleweight Darrelle Valsaint (11-0, 9 KO) face Angel Ruiz Astorga (18-3-1, 13 KO) and super featherweight Dominic Valle (9-0, 7 KO) fight Colombia’s Kevin Piedrahita Puerta (9-2, 8 KO).
