WBC Continental Americas Super Featherweight champion Marc Castro (13-0, 8 KOs) defeated George ‘Yuyu’ Acosta (17-3, 3 KOs) by a round technical decision on Wednesday night at the Santa Monica Pier in Santa Monica, California.

The contest was halted because Acosta’s right eye had closed from a clash of heads. Referee Rudy Barragan stopped the fight at 1:10 of the seventh round of a scheduled ten-round fight. The scores at the time of stoppage were 70-63, 70-63, and 70-63.
In the first three rounds, Acosta, 27, kept coming forward for the most part, with Castro countering well enough to win the rounds through close.
In the fifth round’s final minute, Castro landed a flurry of punches, ending with an overhand right on the chin, which put Acosta in a neutral corner. Acosta worked his way out of it and back on the offense.
In the seventh round, after a minute, Acosta was cut with his right eye due to a clash of heads, suffering much swelling. The ring physician was brought in and called a halt.
In the co-feature, 2016 Olympic Silver Medalist, IBF North American welterweight champion and No. 1 WBA contender Shakhram ‘Wonder Boy’ Giyasov (15-0, 9 KOs) won a 10-round split decision over Mexico’s Miguel ‘Maquina’ Parra (22-4-1, 14 KOs) in a fight that didn’t seem that close.
The scores were 95-94 for Parra, 95-94 and 96-93 for Giyasov.
In the second round’s final minute, Parra rocked Giyasov with a right on the chin. A minute into the fourth round, Giyasov landed a double left hook to the chin. After the round, Parra was warned for talking during the round. Parra had an abrasion under his right eye.
In the fifth round’s final seconds, both landed rights to the chin in another close round won by Parra. In the sixth round, both had their moments in an action round, with Giyasov rocking Parra with a left hook after being hit by a left hook from Parra on the chin.
In the seventh, Giyasov landed a borderline left to the body and ruled a low blow, costing him a point from Referee David Solivan, with Parra overacting in pain. In the final seconds, Giyasov turned southpaw, landing a solid left to the chin of Parra, rocking him.
In the eighth round, Giyasov started dropping his hands on the offense midway and showboating after a good round.
In the ninth round, Giyasov finished the stronger of the two after a solid round by both. In the tenth and final round, Parra fought back well to take a close round.
Former 2022 USA National champion Nathan ‘Brickbuster’ Lugo, 2-0, 2 KO) stopped Ray Corona (4-2) at 0:54 in the second round of a scheduled 4.
In the second round, Lugo hurt Corona, forcing Referee Rudy Barragan to call a halt.
