WBC/WBO junior middleweight champion Sebastian Fundora says he’s on a “different path” now than Terence Crawford, but he’d like to fight him in the future. Crawford mentioned wanting to fight Fundora next if he can’t get the match against Canelo Alvarez, which doesn’t appear he will.

Fundora Stays Tight-Lipped on Spence Fight

Fundora is expected to defend against Errol Spence in November or December later this year. Spence is coming off a knockout, but it doesn’t matter when you’re as popular as him.

It’s questionable whether Fundora (21-1-1, 13 KOs) will fight Crawford in the future because he’s with PC, and they might not be eager to make that fight after what happened to Errol Spence last year. If the money is crazy, Fundora would take it.

“I’m ready to fight whenever they give me the date. They’ll announce it to you guys. You’ll see me back in there,” said Sebastian Fundora to Fighthype when asked when he’ll be fighting next.

Fundora obviously knows he’ll be fighting Spence next, but he likely was told not to say anything. He doesn’t want to jump the gun before the match is official.

Youth and Size Advantage for Fundora

“I didn’t watch it. I wasn’t worried about it,” said Fundora when asked if he saw Terence Crawford’s title-winning fight last Saturday night against WBA junior middleweight champion Israil Madrimov.

As long as His Excellency Turki Alalshikh is working with Crawford, he’s one of the top fighters at 154, and he will be interested in fighting because the risk is worth it financially.

He’s also getting old, and he didn’t look impressive in his debut at 154 last weekend against WBA champion Israil Madrimov. The 26-year-old Fundora’s youth and 6’6″ height will be a problem for Crawford if they fight next year.

“If I get that fight, I’ll love it, but right now, we have a different path,” said Fundora about a fight against Crawford. “I’ll announce it for you guys. Everybody wants to announce it. They know the information before me. I’m not even going to say anything anymore.”

Fundora can make good money fighting Spence twice and then a rematch with Tim Tszyu. He doesn’t need to fight Crawford yet. He can save that one until the end if he’s still holding onto the WBC and WBO titles. Crawford will be a little older when Fundora is ready to fight him, which would work in his favor.

“I expected Terence to win. He’s a good fighter. World class. Madrimov is good, too. I’m sure he’ll be world champion again,” said Fundora. “I didn’t watch it, but I’m sure it was exciting. Our division is exciting right now. We’ve got these guys [Serhii Bohachuk vs. Vegil Ortiz Jr.] fighting this weekend for the [WBC junior middleweight] interim title. It’s good. I’m looking forward to it.”

Crawford almost didn’t win the Madrimov fight, which would have messed things up for many people, especially Turki, who was really on him and wanted to put him in the biggest fights.

“We have the opponent’s name right now, but I can’t say his name right now. I’m down for whoever,” said Fundora.
