Tom Loeffler believes his fighter should’ve certainly retained his title over the weekend.

Serheii Bohachuk’s representative Tom Loeffler gives his immediate reaction to Vergil Ortiz’s majority decision win in what was a very close and competitive fight. From Loeffler’s perspective it’s almost unthinkable that Bohachuk would end up getting the short end of the stick on the official cards, with him believing Bohachuk’s knockdowns clearly put him ahead in the fight. Check out some of what he had to say below.

Loeffler on his reaction to the outcome of Ortiz’s decision over Bohachuk

“It was crazy. Two knockdowns — I mean all credit to Vergil, can’t take nothing away from him, he’s a warrior — but Serheii Bohachuk didn’t lose that fight. He’s a champion, he came in got two knockdowns, he had Vergil’s face all busted up and somehow he came out losing a fight. One judge had it a draw. I don’t know what he had to do to win a round, to win a round that he didn’t get a knockdown in.

“They changed (the first knockdown) correctly but the judging, I don’t know what the judges saw.”

On if this has the same feels as Golovkin vs Canelo

“It really feels like GGG all over again…It doesn’t feel right. You come in as the champion, he fights his heart out, he’s fighting for his country, he gets two knockdowns and he still loses his title.”

On Bohachuk not expected to get a rematch with Ortiz right away

“Well credit to His Excellency, he was impressed by both guys, both guys deserve to continue with big fights so he’s going to put Serheii on one of his big shows.”

On if he believes Bohachuk definitively won the fight

“I thought he won. Again, If there were no knockdowns maybe it could’ve be 6-6 or whatever it was — and again, I’m not taking anything away from Vergil, Vergil fought a great fight — but you look at his face. Serheii was landing more punches. You can say Vergil was maybe landing harder punches but Seheii was landing more punches and had Vergil’s face all busted up.”
