Shakur Stevenson has immense talent but has faced much criticism for recent performances.

Shakur Stevenson spent some time having an in depth conversation with his mentor Andre Ward to discuss a number of topics including being a free agent, his most recent fight and fan criticism, Gervonta Davis, and more. Check out the full video interview in the link at the top with some excerpts of what Stevenson had to say below.

Stevenson on what he’s looking for in signing his next promotional deal

“I just want to be in the biggest and best fights…that same fight that I just fought, with Artem, if that was a name that people knew and was like a big name and I fought the same exact fight, they would say it was a masterpiece. They would say it’s the greatest defensive and in the pocket thing that they ever seen.

“I just want to be in front of the names, I want to be in front of the guys that they think is that good so I can show what level that I am on. So whatever situation puts me in the biggest and best fights I’m down with it.”

On whether his beef with Gervonta Davis is real or just ‘boxing beef’

“It’s kind of bigger than boxing, I guess you could say because like the history and like everything that went on…I know [that fight] is going to happen. I mean, I’m the best, he the best. So you got two guys that’s the best, how can you not fight? Only way you could not fight is if one of them guys ain’t like that and somebody go off to lose or somebody take a L. But I think with both of us, we’re both fighters that’s really good fighters and on that level.”

On what he expects his boxing legacy to be

“I think I will go down as probably the best defensive fighter to ever do it. I want to be one of the best, I want to be in that GOAT mountain where you sitting at, Pernell Whitaker, Floyd Mayweather, Sugar Ray Leonard, Sugar Ray Robinson, Muhammad Ali…I’m just trying to climb up and get there.

“When it’s all said and done, they will respect me.”
