Since His Excellency Turki Alalshikh’s appearance, the boxing community has started to create very high expectations. We assumed that the time had come to see the great fights that we all wanted to see, but for one reason or another, this has not been realized.

Every day, I end with more doubts than certainties. At first, I believed that money, which we assumed was the first obstacle to bringing about the fights between the best in each class of weight, had not worked.

I must say that Turki has been unable to do the fights we thought he should have done. Canelo Alvarez did not face David Benavidez in 168, nor did we see him fight David Morrell while both were still campaigning in the super middleweight division.

Morrell versus Benavidez is another fight that was left in the air. It seems it is no longer about money but the interests of those who have always handled boxing.

Alalshikh’s presence and contacts have not managed to bring together the promoters of some fighters, which is evident to me.

The Vergil Ortiz Jr. match against Terence Crawford is another fight that we seemed to have at hand. But the latest news indicates that it will not be possible to see either. Something is not working because we assume that the money is there, but it does not seem to be enough to make the fights that should be made.

Gervonta Davis vs. Shakur Stevenson was another fight we thought he could do. But the latest news tells us that we will not see it soon. I believe there is a gap between what Turki wishes to do and the fights that boxing fans expect him to do.

Honestly, I see very little sense in giving someone like Turki the power to make the fights expected by most boxing fans. And even less if, to this day, it has been unable to put together at least one of the fights we expected to see.

I think there is little consensus. The promoters are playing a bit with the inexperience of someone with a lot of money and little knowledge of how boxing is actually done. At some point, I think they are waiting for the opposite error to take advantage.

It’s inexplicable to me that someone is obsessed with putting Canelo against Crawford in a ring. Since then, we have begun to see that there is an ignorance of the weights in each division. Someone in His Excellency’s environment must explain that this fight is unattractive and almost crazy after seeing Crawford in his last fight at junior middleweight.

Certainly, I do not know where this dance of millions will go. What I’m pretty clear about now is that it doesn’t make sense for those who have been in boxing forever to play with someone’s imagination and try to lie to hardcore boxing fans.

When you enter a business like boxing, you must understand that this sports business is run under a controlled environment. That’s why we fans imagine fights that we should see but have never seen. And if you have all the money to make them and you don’t, that doesn’t seem logical, right?
