Regarded as the number one prospect in the sport of boxing, 20-year-old Abdullah Mason is about to compete inside the ring for the fourth time this year as he’s set to face Mike Ohan Jr (19-2, 9 KOs) on Saturday night, August 17th at the Centre Videotron in Quebec City, Canada, airing live on ESPN+.

This undercard bout is part of a Top Rank card that’s headlined by Christian Mbilli vs Sergiy Derevyanchenko. The blue-chip lightweight prospect Abdullah Mason has been very productive this year, and he expects to wrap this year up with another impressive performance and a change in classification.

The last time the Cleveland native competed inside of the squared circle, it was in a step-up bout against Luis Lebron back in July 2024. In the opening round, the southpaw Abdullah Mason dictated the pace by landing the jab followed by the left to the body.

Mason picked up the intensity in the second round as he pressed forward and landed sharp combinations on multiple occasions. With 55 seconds left to go in round number two, Mason landed a hard left hook that sent Lebron down to the canvas.

Fourteen seconds later, Mason connected with a right hook that floored Lebron for a second time. Lebron survived the second round, but as the third round progressed, Lebron was getting hit by solid shots as his corner decided to put a halt to the contest by throwing in the towel.

Now the undefeated rising star Abdullah Mason (14-0, 12 KOs) wants to showcase his skills and demonstrate why he is ready to change his classification from prospect to contender. Standing in his way is a man who is ready to embrace the role of the underdog.

Mike Ohan Jr is a fighter who never backs down from a challenge, as he agreed to fight Mason on three weeks notice. The 30-year-old native of Holbrook, Massachusetts is always in the gym and he’s confident as it relates to having the tools needed to upset Mason.

Ohan is coming into this fight with some momentum as he’s currently on a three fight win streak. In order to pull off the massive upset, Ohan will have to be smart, discipline, and utilize his gift of throwing well timed shots.

Boxing is a sport that’s defined by levels, and while Mike Ohan can be categorized as good, his opponent Abdullah Mason is elite. If things go according to plan, Mason will have a record of 4-0 in the year 2024.

If he’s able to produce a dominant win tonight, Abdullah Mason could attempt to squeeze in a fifth fight within the calendar year. As we turn the page on the calendar to 2025, Abdullah Mason plans on targeting the lightweight contenders, and positioning himself for a shot at a world title.
