Canelo says he plans on punishing Edgar Berlanga before he’ll look to force a stoppage.

Just about a month away from Canelo Alvarez’s return to the ring, taking on Edgar Berlanga on September 14, Canelo speaks to TMZ Sports about his upcoming fight and his thoughts on the matchup.

Canelo on the importance on fighting on Mexican holiday weekends

“For me it’s always great to represent my country on those days, I always try to fight in those days because it’s important for me and for my Mexican fans. So I’m glad to be here, glad to fight in May and September and I’m very honored.”

On how he views Berlanga as a fighter

“He’s good, he’s strong, he’s young, he’s hungry. But it’s nothing new for me. I been in there with all the kind of fighters, difficult fighters, strong fighters, and I’m just going to go in there and do my business.”

On Berlanga’s power

“I’m going to find out September 14 but, you know, I’m strong. I’m strong and I’m looking to do my best there and let him feeling so much pain. So I’m focused on that.”

On Berlanga saying he KOs heavyweights in sparring

“Me too. I’m not heavyweight but I’m more stronger than them.”

On how long he expects the fight to go

“I don’t know how quick but I’m going to do my job and I’m going to try to let him to feel so much pain and then knock out him. I don’t know what round.

“He already know and he’s going to need a really good camp so I hope he prepare himself really well because he’s going to need it.”
