Matchroom expect to finalize a fight between Sunny Edwards and Galal Yafai in the coming days.

The 28-year-old Edwards is recovering from the cut suffered in victory over Mexico’s Adrian Curiel in June, but in the days before that fight revealed that his terms to confront Yafai, his leading domestic rival, had already been agreed.

Yafai, 31, remains in negotiations with Matchroom, but a fight between them has been likely since before Yafai fought on the undercard of December’s date between Edwards and Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez when defeating Rocco Santomauro, and given the plans for them to meet in Birmingham, he will be the one fighting at home.

“We’re in negotiations,” Eddie Hearn told BoxingScene. “Sunny Edwards has agreed his deal, and we’re just finalizing now with Galal Yafai and his team. But the plan for that fight would be November 30th in Birmingham.”

Edwards and Yafai have both been open about the friendship that dates back to their days as amateurs.

“Hopefully we can get a deal done in the next week,” Hearn continued. “I think it’s the right fight for both. I think it’s a really good and big fight for British boxing. So, I’d like to get it done. Very soon.”
