Promoter Leonard Ellerbe predicts a body shot knockout win for Canelo Alvarez over Edgar Berlanga on September 14th in their clash at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Ellerbe believes Berlanga (22-0, 17 KOs) will give it a good try against unified super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez (61-2-2, 39 KOs), but it won’t be enough to prevent the inevitable from happening to overmatched 27-year-old New Yorker.
Leonard notes that Berlanga has been talking a lot during the buildup to the fight, and he wants to see if he can back up what he’s been saying on the night. He stands to gain a lot if he upsets Canelo because there would be a rematch that would make him a fortune, and even if he lost that, his career opportunities would be immense.
The Canelo-Berlanga event will be shown live on DAZN PPV. On the undercard, former IBF super middleweight champion Caleb Plant faces Trevor McCumby for the WBA interim 168-lb title, which will put the winner in position to face Canelo soon.
Berlanga’s Untested Body
“Six to eight rounds. In my opinion, I think Canelo stops him,” said promoter Leonard Ellerbe to the Fighthype YouTube channel, predicting a knockout win for unified super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez over Edgar Berlanga on September 14th. “I think it’s going to be a body shot, too.
Berlanga hasn’t been tested to the body during his short career. So, it’ll be interesting to see how he handles the body attack from Canelo if he chooses to target him there.
“It’s going to be a very entertaining fight. That I do know because Berlanga is going to come. He’s definitely going to try,” said Ellerbe. “He’s not going to lay down. He’s representing his country and he wants to put on a great performance. He’s talked that talk. So, come September 14th, we’re going to see what he’s bringing to the table.
“Tune in September 14th. From top to bottom, an outstanding card. I can’t wait,” said Ellerbe about the Canelo vs. Berlanga card on DAZN PPV.
