Local hero Samo Jangirov, 9-5-3, won the vacant BBU cruiserweight title by stopping Finn Marko Mononen, 8-7, in the headliner of promoter Judi Othman’s show at the Safiren Conference Center.

 

Jangirov dominated the fight from the start and broke through in the fourth, when Mononen went down the towel came from his corner.

 

In the chief support former WBC and IBO female super welterweight champion Patricia Berghult (17-1) returned to action after 18 months out and outscored tough Lithuanian journeywoman Vaida Masiokaite (10-25-5) in a six-rounder. It was scored 59-55 twice and 58-56. Berghult was cut in the fifth and looked a bit rusty – and is now campaigning at super lightweight.

 

Finnish super middle Ivan Perala (8-0) outscored Latvian, based in Norway Andrejs Baranovs, 2-2, by split decision in a hard fought six-rounder. It was scored 58-56 on all cards but 2-1 in favor of Perala.
