Canelo Alvarez claims his opponent Edgar Berlanga cannot beat him and that he’s already victorious ahead of their fight on Saturday, September 14th, at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

It’s understandable why Canelo (61-2-2, 39 KOs) is so sure of victory. He has the talent, experience, and boxing IQ to make this an easy fight on Saturday night against the unbeaten challenger Berlanga (22-0, 17 KOs).
Most would agree that Berlanga, 27, needed more seasoning and wasn’t ready yet to challenge Canelo or face any of the talented contenders. He pushed for the fight, and his promoters at Matchroom obliged him.
Berlanga may have understood that he may not have ever gotten this shot if he had to fight the top contenders to get the needed experience because he’d had a lot of trouble in fights against Jason Quigley, Roamier Alexis Angulo, Marcelo Coceres and Steve Rolls.
“No, no chance. The experience I have, the intelligence, my boxing ability, I’ve already won, September 14th,” said Canelo Alvarez to Premier Boxing Champions.
Fans aren’t surprised that Canelo is confident of winning because he picked out Berlanga and obviously vetted him before making the selection to ensure that he was a safe, beatable choice. If he had doubts, he likely wouldn’t have chosen him.
At this stage of Canelo’s career, he’s selective. He’s no longer fighting dangerous opposition like he did years ago when he fought Gennadiy Golovkin and Miguel Cotto.
Canelo will defend his WBA, WBC, and WBO super middleweight titles against Berlanga live on DAZN PPV. Berlanga is Canelo’s WBA mandatory after beating Padraig McCrory earlier this year in February.
“I see him throwing shots at people’s arms,” Berlanga said. “He started doing that when he started fighting bigger fighters; break the arms down so in the later rounds he can just start connecting. That’s his method all the time.”
Canelo wasn’t throwing a lot of punches to the arms of John Ryder, Jermell Charlo, or Jaime Munguia. He was throwing mostly headshots in those fights.
