Tyson Fury complained about the $150 million he was losing out on after watching Anthony Joshua get knocked out in the fifth round by Daniel Dubois last Saturday night. The defeat by Joshua effectively scuppered plans for him and Fury to meet in a mega-million clash in the first quarter of 2025.
Although His Excellency Turki Alalshikh had previously talked about the possibility of the Joshua-Fury fight still happening if one or both lost, how Joshua was reduced to asteroid dust by IBF heavyweight champion Dubois (22-2, 21 KOs) last Saturday night in front of 96,000 fans at Wembley Stadium in London, there’s no chance for the Fury fight to happen next.
“That’s cost me $150 million, the silly c***,” said Tyson Fury to TNT Sports Boxing, reacting to Anthony Joshua’s loss to Daniel Dubois.
All that cash went down the drain due to Joshua’s loss. Fury had to be upset, but that’s how it goes. Joshua is already filthy rich, sitting on a fortune of $80 million, and when you have that kind of money, this is what happens. He’s not exactly young, with him being in his mid-30s. That might be young for an executive in a corporation, but not a fighter.
Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, already recognizes that the rematch with Dubois must happen next, and he’s talking about AJ triggering the clause they have in the contract to make that happen.
AJ Needs to Dump Ben Davison
It was obvious from watching the 34-year-old Joshua last night that he wasn’t at his best. He was using a wacky fight approach, retreating and not letting his hands go. Besides the passive game plan that Joshua used, his physique appeared bulky, like he’d been hitting the weight room way too much. He may have thought that he needed more muscles to handle the power of the young lion, Dubois, but it backfired on him.
It goes without saying that Joshua needs to fire trainer Ben Davison immediately. That’s not even open for discussion. Davison has got to go. If Joshua didn’t hand Davison his walking papers after the fight, he must do it now. Ben failed him with this silly game plan, and he looked poorly training.
