Yoenis Tellez and Mateo Tapia will feature in a pair of fights.
Premier Boxing Champions have announced a pair of undercard fights for their Oct. 19 show on Prime Video, a card headlined by the 154 lb title fight between Bakhram Murtazaliev and Tim Tszyu.
Cuban super welterweight Yoenis Tellez (8-0, 6 KO) comes over from Jake Paul’s MVP outfit to make his return to the PBC rings, facing Johan Gonzalez (35-3, 34 KO).
Tellez, 24, looked excellent in a third round TKO win over Sergio Garcia the last time he fought on a PBC show in July 2023, and has won two straight on MVP cards. Venezuela’s Gonzalez, 33, has losses to Magomed Kurbanov and Jesus Ramos in the last couple of years, but did beat Guido Schramm a little under a year ago in a semi-notable ProBox TV bout.
Tellez will be on home ground, in a way, as he’s had four of his last five fights at the Caribe Royale in Orlando, where this show will be held.
Middleweight Mateo Tapia (17-0, 10 KO) will also be in action, as the 26-year-old Australian — born in Mexico — will take on another Venzuelan in Endry Saavedra (16-1, 13 KO), a fight that would really be better off actually taking place in Australia, where Saavedra has a bit of notoriety thanks to a win over Isaac Hardman this past March.
Tapia, 26, is seven years younger than his foe and coming off of a win over Keiber Gonzalez on Apr. 24.
Tellez is a legit prospect and Tapia is in a division where strides can be made quickly right now, and on paper it’s not a terrible undercard, but you can also see they don’t exactly have a lot of money to be spending on this show. Luckily, the main event is really good on paper, and that’s what most people care about.
