Edgar Berlanga thinks Terence Crawford can’t be counted out in a fight against Canelo Alvarez at 168. Even though Crawford is older and would be giving away weight against unified siper middleweight champion Canelo (62-2-2, 39 KOs), the recently beaten Berlanga feels he would have a shot.
Crawford turns 37 years old this Saturday, September 28th, and he needs to start thinking about retirement if the Canelo fight doesn’t drop down from the sky into his lap.
It would help if Crawford were willing to get up off his backside and work for the title shot against Canelo by running the gauntlet against these four talented killers: David Benavidez, Osleys Iglesias, David Morrell, and Christian Mbilli.
I’m sorry, Berlanga. At 168, you don’t rate in my book as one of the big four for Crawford to fight to earn the Canelo fight. Jewelry-wearing, manufactured fighters with weak resumes don’t count.
Provided His Excellency Turki Alalshikh comes through with the $150 million for Canelo to make the fight happen, Crawford will move up two weight classes from 154 to challenge him for his WBA, WBC, and WBO super middleweight titles.
Turki recently joined Crawford in calling out Canelo on September 14th after his one-sided 12 round unanimous decision against a hopelessly overmatched Berlanga. However, when asked about that matchup at the post-fight press conference, Canelo looked disinterested, saying, “No comment.”
How Canelo made this remark was clear: ‘Stop bothering me already.’ Crawford needs to get the hint and move on because Canelo is not going to help him with his pursuit of generational money for his golden parachute retirement fund. David Benavidez already offered Crawford a fight, and other excellent fighters like Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis are also interested in fighting him.
“I truly believe anything can happen in boxing, and Terence Crawford is a legend. He’s a great fighter. The only thing that I see that favors Canelo is his weight, and he’s way bigger. That’s the only thing,” said Edgar Berlanga to Sways Universe about his thoughts on Terence Crawford potentially fighting Canelo Alvarez at 168.
“As far as skill set and IQ, Crawford can match anybody and probably do way better. Crawford is a legend, bro. You can’t count him out,” said Berlanga.
