Regis Prograis says being away from home has been a plus for his preparation to face Jack Catterall.
Regis Prograis is looking to bounce back from a one-sided defeat last December, as he faces Jack Catterall tomorrow in Manchester, England.
In an interview with Donald McRae, Prograis admits that Bill Haney mentally threw him off his game before that bout, and that he’s enjoying being on the road in Manchester:
“I knew we wanted to build the fight but they definitely got in my head. A lot of people don’t like Bill Haney. Sometimes he can be a clown but he’s clever at the same time. It’s interesting because boxing is much more mental than physical. We all train hard but your mentality makes the difference. … [H]onestly, I’d rather fight away from home now. … [T]here’s no pressure on me. I’m just chilling. Nobody’s calling my phone. I have nothing going on.”
Prograis (29-2, 24 KO) also called Catterall (29-1, 13 KO) “super-friendly,” but is ready to get down to business and get his career back on track, saying that becoming a three-time world champion is still his main goal.
That won’t happen this fight, as there are no world titles on the line, but a win would put Prograis, 35, right back on the path. A loss could be devastating toward that goal, even though it would come in a serious fight against a fellow legitimate contender.
