Devin Haney posted on social media that only Turki Alalashikh can make a fight between him and Jack Catterall happen.

The former two-division world champion Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) is obviously hoping to get a massive payday for the fight against the highly ranked light welterweight contender Catterall (30-1, 13 KOs), who is coming off of a twelve-round unanimous decision win over Regis Prograis last Saturday night in Manchester, England.

It’s not the ideal time for Turki to use Haney for one of his Riyadh Season events, given that he’s coming off a loss to Ryan Garcia. Paying Haney millions to fight a fighter with a dull style like Catterall would be a cup of poison for fans. Haney is likely thinking that he can make a bundle fighting Catterall.

It’s unclear whether Turki would be interested in a fight between the recently beaten finesse fighter Haney and Catterall because they mirrored images of each other with their highly mobile, fleet-footed styles. If I were Turki, I would only offer Haney fighters with exciting styles that the fans worldwide would want to pay to see.

A fight between those two wouldn’t attract as much interest in Turki’s Riyadh Season events as other potential matchups. It would be more interesting to see Haney fight Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis at 147 or Brian Norman Jr than Catterall with his painfully boring Shakur Stevenson fighting style.

Using Catterall as an opponent for Haney would be a waste of Turki’s money because there are fighters that U.S. fans would prefer he fight. Catterall is not one of them. Despite his win over the made-to-order Regis Prograis last Saturday night, he’s still seen as British-level.

Haney is more entertaining to watch than Catterall. On a 1-10 entertainment scale with being the lowest, Catterall is a 1 and Haney is 5.
