Gervonta Davis vs. Lamont Roach is being moved to a new date in January from the original December 14th scheduled day. There’s no official confirmation from PBC, but Tank Davis revealed the information to Dan Rafael.
Tank posted a cryptic, sad-faced emoji on his X site, suggesting that he has bad news for his fans. Actually, it would be seen as a positive by the Baltimore native Tank Davis’ followers if he canceled the fight against Roach entirely or moved it to the David Benavidez vs. David Morrell card on January 25th in Las Vegas.
“The fight will not happen this year. Davis wrote, “January I’m hearing” for when the fight would happen,” said Dan Rafael on his Fight Freaks Unite site.

Possible reasons for the new move:
- Lack of interest in Tank-Roach fight: Given the massive backlash from fans over the little-known super featherweight Roach being selected, the fight could do poorly on Prime Video PPV. The promoters for this event would be taking a risk placing a fight that few people want to see on December 14th without a solid co-feature to help with the PPV buys.
- The need to package the fight with a bigger one: Moving the Davis vs. Roach fight to a bigger fight, such as Benavidez-Morrell, would help attract more interest. If placed on the Benavidez card, fans would overlook the Tank fight as dull. It would be more tolerated because the focus would be on the more compelling match between Morrell and Benavidez.
- Additional time to market fight: Moving the contest a month later, in January, will give the promoters more time to market it and try to create fan interest with interviews and social media posts.
The fans’ lack of interest in the fight between Davis and Roach makes it necessary to move it if it is not canceled. It would be risky for any promoter to place a low-appeal fight in a large venue like the Toyota Center in Houston and have it on PPV. That’s a recipe for disaster in terms of financial loss.
Tank Davis’ promoters must recognize that he needs to be matched better in the future because fans have grown tired of the lackluster opposition he’s fought in his 11-year career.
When you see Tank being fed gimmes like Rolly Romero, Frank Martin, Ryan Garcia, and Isaac Cruz, it signals to people that his career is just a hustle to make money without providing value.
