Floyd Schofield downgraded Shakur Stevenson when asked if the reports were true that he’d beaten up the New Jersey native during sparring with him and Devin Haney. The unbeaten #2 WBA lightweight contender Schofield (17-0, 12 KOs) says the sparring made him realize that Shakur and Haney aren’t “who they say they are.” When Schofield made that comment, he wore a devilish smile that suggested that he’d beaten up both guys.

Shakur (22-0, 10 KOs) didn’t take kindly to being run down by the 22-year-old Schofield, and he took to social media to tell him and his followers that he’d messaged him afterward, saying “I’m the greatest boxer he ever seen.”
While that may sound good coming from Shakur, the young upstart Schofield may have just been blowing smoke up his backside to give him false flattery in a political way without really meaning it. It sounds like he was showing sympathy to Shakur by giving him false praise after working him over in sparring. Schofield has a political air about him. He’s not going to let someone have if the way other fighters do by telling the truth, but in this interview, he made it clear that Haney and Shakur aren’t that good.
You can tell from watching Schofield talk that he’s polite and doesn’t roast his opponents. For Schofield to say that he found out that Shakur and Haney weren’t who they said they were, you have to believe that it was an unfiltered moment where he was giving him true thoughts.
With Schofield’s power, speed, and punching style, it’s easy to imagine him beating up Shakur and Haney in sparring because guys would have nothing to hold off a talent like him. Shakur & Haney are fighters that have zero balance in their game.
They’re all defense and no offense, so they’re not popular and never will be. Schofield has a much better chance of being a star than either of those fighters because he has an entertaining style. To become a star in boxing or any sport, you have to entertain. That’s the name of the game now. Boring fighters from the past, like Mayweather, wouldn’t cut it in this era.
“Lil bro was in my DMs right after the one sparring we had telling me I’m the greatest boxer he ever seen..@KidAustin11. These cameras are going to get you exposed. Stop capping so much,” said Shakur Stevenson on X, reacting to Floyd Schofield saying that he and Devin Haney aren’t who they say they are after sparring with them.
“I’m not going to speak on sparring, but I’ll just say that it was sparring that made me realize that these guys aren’t what they say they are,” said Floyd Schofield to Fight Hub TV when asked if it were true that he beat up Shakur Stevenson and Devin Haney in sparring.
It’s up to fans to determine which of the two fighters is telling the truth. Given the way Schofield speaks, you have to believe it’s him. He’s a straight shooter.
Schofield will be fighting Rene Tellez Giron (20-3, 13 KOs) in a 12-round main event this Saturday, November 2nd, at The Theater at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas. The event will be shown on DAZN.
