WBC super flyweight champion Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez (21-0, 14 KOs) made easy work of challenger Pedro Guevara (42-5-1, 22 KOs), destroying him in the third round of a scheduled twelve-round fight on Saturday night at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.

The 24-year-old ‘Bam’ Rodriguez looked massive in size compared to the smaller 35-yea-rol Guevara, and was walking down the Mexican warrior from the opening bell. Surprisingly, Guevara chose to trade power shots rather than move, ultimately spoiling what slim chances he had of winning.
In the third round, Bam Rodriguez backed Guevara up against the ropes and dropped him with a left to the head.
Guevara got back to his feet quickly and steamed straight into the teeth of Bam’s offense. He was quickly knocked down a second time, but this time with a left uppercut that put him down face first. on the canvas. The referee Ricky Gonzalez instinctively knew that Guevara was not going to get up, and he halted the fight. The time of the stoppage was at 2:40 of round three.
Bam Rodriguez was interviewed inside the ring, and he said he wants to fight a unification against one of the other champions at Super Flyweight next. If not one of them, he said he would like to face 37-year-old former four-division world champion Roman ‘Chocolatito’ Gonzalez next.
There were some boos from the audience when Bam Rodriguez said he wanted the Chocolatito fight, possibly because some fans felt that Gonzalez was old. They don’t want him to have his career ended by a fighter so much younger than him, like the 24-year-old Bam Rodriguez. In recent fights in the last two years, Bam has beaten these older fighters:
– Juan Francisco Estrada: 34
– Carlos Cuadras: 36
– Srisaket Sor Rungvisai: 37
Fans would prefer Bam Rodriguez move up to 118 and face Junto Nakatani next or go up to 122 to face undisputed champ Naoya Inoue. As big as Bam looked tonight, he could fight at featherweight at 126 easily. His size is one reason for his success in these lower-weight classes. He’s bigger than his opposition.
