Devin Haney could make his return in 2025 against Teofimo Lopez, according to a report by Forbes.

Haney hasn’t fought since his highly controversial encounter with Ryan Garcia in April. Haney, then WBC junior welterweight boss, was dropped four times before losing a majority decision only for the result to be changed to a No Decision when it emerged that Garcia had failed two drug tests.

Due to inactivity, the WBC have since made Haney their ‘champion in recess’ at 140lbs.

Lopez, meanwhile, has twice defended the WBO junior welterweight title he took from Josh Taylor in 2023 with victories over Jamaine Ortiz and Steve Claggett. Neither victory reached the heights of his title-winning effort, however.

It’s worth noting that Lopez, 21-1 (13 KOs), tends to impress when the stakes are at their highest, like when he unseated Taylor and upset lightweight king Vasyl Lomachenko in 2020.
