On Friday night November 15th, Most Valuable Promotions hosted a grand event at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas as the 27-year-old YouTuber turned boxer Jake Paul defeated former two-time world heavyweight champion ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson via unanimous decision.

The strategical execution in regards to the buildup and marketing of this bout was effective. Millions of fans tuned in to Netflix hoping to see a vintage ferocious Mike Tyson, but instead they saw a way past his prime hall of fame boxer struggling to go the distance.

The Mike Tyson vs Jake Paul clash was initially set to take place on July 20, but two months prior to the fight, Tyson experienced a health issue. During a flight from Miami to Los Angeles, Tyson suffered an ulcer flare-up.

Tyson experienced nausea, he was light headed, and he threw up blood in the airplane bathroom. After being treated at the hospital, Tyson’s doctor advised him to take a few weeks off from training. Due to Tyson’s ulcer flare-up, his fight against Jake Paul was postponed and rescheduled for November 15th.

When Mike Tyson resumed his training, the red flags were popping up, but the hardcore Tyson fans ignored them. For example, instead of posting extended clips of Tyson’s training, his team would post little snippets of the training sessions.

This didn’t sit well with the group of people who were critical of the Tyson vs Paul fight because they wanted to view an extended video in order to get an idea of the 58-year-old Tyson’s stamina level. Another bothersome red flag was the absence of sparring.

Once again the critics of the Tyson vs Paul fight wanted to see Tyson spar and observe how he responds to having an active opponent in front of him. The Tyson sparring video made an appearance a week before the fight, but in the video Tyson’s sparring partner didn’t make an attempt to throw a punch.

On fight night, the anticipation level was high as celebrities and a host of boxing fans filed into AT&T Stadium. Back in his prime when Mike Tyson walked to the ring it was an intimidating sight, but on the night of November 15th when Tyson was walking to the ring it was giving grandpa vibes.

Despite the fact that the ring walked looked different, when Tyson entered the ring it felt like 1988, but after the 1st round, fight fans quickly came to the realization that this is 2024. In the opening round Tyson charged forward trying to land something big.

Once Tyson got inside, Jake Paul proceeded to clinch and grab. As the referee separated the two fighters, Paul used his jab while circling around the ring. Later on in the opening round, fight fans got excited when Tyson landed a left-right combination.

As the match continued, Jake Paul controlled the fight with movement, using his jab and throwing an occasional right hand. In Mike Tyson’s mind, he wanted to take the fight to Paul, but his body failed him. Tyson was standing on weary legs, and as a result, the 58-year-old was unable to close the distance.

A stunned crowd in the AT&T Stadium looked on as they witnessed the iconic Mike Tyson inside of the ring, which looked like a shell of his former self. Meanwhile, Jake Paul continued to execute his game plan, and he cruised to a unanimous decision victory.

After the fight, many celebrities voiced their opinions on social media. Some questioned why the fight was allowed to happen, and others had anger towards Jake Paul. WBA world lightweight champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis posted:

“To the bozo that shared the ring with Mike.. you a whole bozo for this, and you didn’t get the job done sh**head…”

Mike Tyson will always be an iconic boxing legend and this loss to Jake Paul won’t hurt his mystique. The Tyson vs Paul bout was a money grab that was painful to watch, as once again we witness the fact that no matter how great of an athlete you was during the course of your prime, Father Time is undefeated.
