Mahmoud Charr owns the WBA “world” heavyweight title
Those with DAZN subscriptions will soon get to enjoy the fifth-hottest heavyweight fight of 2013, as the network announced that they’ll carry Mahmoud Charr vs Kubrat Pulev on December 7th.
At least, those subscribers not in Germany, Bulgaria, Austria, Switzerland, or Poland.
Thanks to a long and extremely funny legal battle, Charr (34-4, 20 KO) is one of the relatively few remaining secondary WBA titlists, owning the “world” title since winning it against Alexander Ustinov in 2017. Various trials and tribulations, most engineered by Don King, have held him to just three fights since, though the latest setback came due to injury.
Pulev (31-3, 14 KO) is 43 years old and his highest-profile fight in the last four years was a questionable split decision loss to Derek Chisora in their rematch. He is the perfect WBA title challenger.
With the time zone in Bulgaria, there’ll be plenty of time for DAZN to broadcast both this and Liam Paro vs Richardson Hitchins. What an electric day of boxing.
