Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis’ latest choice of opponent for his March 1st fight, Lamont Roach Jr., is another disappointing pick in a long line of lackluster fighters for the Baltimore native. The fight will be shown on PBC on Prime Video PPV at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
Not This Guy Again
Fans had hoped for a miracle, with Tank surprising them with a holiday announcement of him choosing Edwin De Los Santos, Raymond Muratalla, or Shakur Stevenson. That would have gone against the grain for the cherry picking Tank Davis has done during his career.
Tank would have done fans a real solid if he’d canceled the Roach fight and substituted Shakur in his place because that matchup would have been pure fire.
These are just a few of the many preferable fighters that fans want to see Gervonta fight rather than the 29-year-old Roach, who will be coming up in weight from 130 to challenge for the WBA lightweight title.
The super featherweight Roach (25-1-1, 10 KOs) is NOT the type of opponent that fans want to see Tank (30-0, 28 KOs) fight. This was more of the same safe picks people have seen from the 30-year-old Davis during his 11-year pro career.
Although the Davis-Roach fight had been postponed from the original December 14th date, fans had hoped that Tank would cancel it due to the negative criticism he’d received. That’s why today’s announcement that the fight will be rescheduled for March 1st angered many fans who don’t want to see it.

WBC lightweight champion Shakur has been calling out Tank Davis for a fight since he moved up to 135 lb last year, and he’s gotten nowhere. Davis is not interested. Fans could accept that if Tank were fighting the likes of De Los Santos, Mason, Muratalla, or Zepeda.
