Promoter Ben Shalom said he could bring back two of his Olympians on the same bill in the spring.
Frazer Clarke suffered a catastrophic first-round knockout to Fabio Wardley in October while, on the same card, Ben Whittaker was troubled by Liam Cameron and ultimately their fight was ended when both boxers tumbled over the top rope and Whittaker could not continue.
There is clamor for Whittaker to go back in with Cameron, while Clarke will have to be brought back in a different manner, although Shalom – having spoken to Clarke – insists the heavyweight bronze medalist has the desire to get back in and get his career back on track.
The fighters are, according to Shalom “on the same timeline” which means they could box in March or April on the same show in the Midlands.
“He [Clarke]’s going to be back in the gym from January and speaking to him, if you’ve got the right mindset in this game, it doesn’t matter what happens, if you lose fights, you switch off, but if you lose fights and you have the right mindset, you have the right mentality, you have the right hunger, speaking to him he’s just as hungry now as he was before the [Wardley] fight and that says everything about him. I’m really excited to see how this experience can help him, how it can shape him. It was obviously horrible at the time, but he’s in a good place and ready to go again.”
Clarke said he will be medically cleared from January 10, and this week told Ring Walk Media, “I’m absolutely fine. I’m very blessed. Big shout out to the boxing world and the public. Everyone’s been so nice… I got knocked out. It was upsetting for a few weeks, but the fire burns more than ever.”
Clarke and Wardley shared a vicious Fight of the Year contender in March, when they boxed to a draw in London.
