Gervonta Davis got riled up today when reminded today that he’d said in the past that he would fight Shakur Stevenson and Devin Haney before he retires. Davis (30-0, 28 KOs) flat-out denied having said it, and it looked like he was about to go postal.

With the ‘Face of Boxing’ Tank revealing this week that he’s retiring at the end of 2025 after three more fights, the media are putting his feet to the fire, pressing him for answers about WHEN he will fight Shakur and Haney. He shut down that question real quick.

Tank’s eyes bugged out when asked about those two, and he looked ready to explode. It was a good thing Devin and Stevenson weren’t in the room. You could tell from the way Davis reacted that he’s not playing. He’s NOT going to fight those guys ever. Davis says he’s got three fights left, but it’s not likely that either of those guys will get the pick next year.

“You said before you retire you want to fight Devin and Shakur. Is that still the plan?” said a media member to Tank Davis today.

“I never said that. When did I say that? But I would for sure,” said Gervonta about him being interested in fighting Devin Haney and Shakur Stevenson.

After the way Davis reacted to the question, future reporters should avoid this topic. It’s like the third rail for Tank, who wants nothing to do with those two.

The Potential Final Three

  1. Ryan Garcia: Biggest money fight for Tank
  2. Vasily Lomachenko
  3. Teofimo Lopez

Naturally, Stevenson was upset at seeing the reaction from Gervonta today, seeing that payday that he has been hoping to get in 2025 float out the door. It would be a good idea for Shakur to give up hope on that fight because Tank doesn’t look like he’s kidding around.

Promoter Eddie Hearn should scratch Tank’s name off the list as a potential opponent for Shakur next year. He said today that he wants William Zepeda for Stevenson after his fight with Floyd Schofield on February 22nd. He’d hoped that Gervonta would be Shakur’s third fight in 2025, but that doesn’t look promising.

The money would be huge for Shakur, but it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen. What Stevenson has going against him in getting the Tank fight is obvious. He’s a runner, and he’s failed to fight the guys that he needed to for him up his name.

For 2025, Shakur can fight these guys:

– Floyd Schofield
– William Zepeda
– Edwin De Los Santos

Shakur Stevenson: “Every time my name comes up, boy get hella emotional, If you’re that bothered, settle it in the ring, gangster,” said Shakur Stevenson on X, reacting to Gervonta Davis going off on a reporter when his name was brought up today at the press conference “Tell [Gervonta] to fight me then.”
