Tommy Fury withdraws from his Jan. 18 fight with Darren Till, says Till doesn’t intend to abide by boxing rules.

A proposed Jan. 18 boxing match between Tommy Fury and former UFC fighter Darren Till is officially off as Fury announced his withdrawal from the match. Fury took to social media to make his announcement where he cites safety concerns over his belief that Till doesn’t intend to abide by the rules of boxing.

“For the one simple reason being that Darren has stated over and over that he does not want to abide by professional boxing rules and that if he is loosing the fight he will resort to kicking and other stupid MMA tactics,” Fury posted on Instagram.

Fury laments the weeks of training he’s undergone to this point and says he’s currently working on securing a new opponent and a new fight date going forward.

During the press conference for the event Till threatened to kick Fury in the head during their fight, which turned out to be something that Fury has taken to heart. Till, however, says he was basically just talking shit to Fury in order to get in his head — which appears to have worked, just not in the way he intended.

“I’ve just got to the gym now to do my sparring,” Till said in a video on X. I’ve just been shown a post that Tommy Fury’s not fighting me because I threatened to kick him in the head. I said I’d kick him in the head at the press conference as a mental warfare tactic. Since then I haven’t said anything else, I’ve been hard at work at the gym preparing for this boxing match with him on Jan. 18.”

Till believes that he always believed Fury would find a reason to pull out of the fight and has now found his excuse. And as disappointed as all boxing fans will be about this news, we’ll just have to find a way to live on in a world with Fury vs Till.
